HOW TO REPORT A MISSING LOVED ONE? If you believe a loved one is missing, contact your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible. Contrary to a common misconception, there is generally no mandatory waiting period before reporting a missing person. If you believe someone is missing or in danger, make the report immediately. When filing the report, be prepared to provide: -Full name and date of birth -Recent photographs -Physical description, including height, weight, hair color, eye color, and identifying marks -Clothing and accessories worn when last seen -Last known location and time seen -Vehicle information, if applicable -Phone numbers, social media accounts, and email addresses -Names of friends, associates, employers, or locations the individual may frequent -Any medical conditions or circumstances that may place the person at risk AFTER THE REPORT IS FILED: Ask for: -The case number The investigating agency's contact information The name and contact information of the assigned investigator, if available Keep a record of all communication, tips, sightings, and developments related to the case. BUILDING AWARENESS Once a report has been filed, families may consider: -Creating and distributing missing person flyers Sharing accurate information on social media -Contacting local news outlets -Organizing community awareness efforts -Maintaining a central location for case updates and information

FAMILY RESOURCES When a loved one goes missing, families are often faced with an overwhelming number of decisions in a very short period of time. The Missing Found has compiled the following resources to help families increase awareness, organize information, and connect with their communities.

MISSING PERSON AWARENESS FLYERS A well-designed flyer can help spread awareness quickly online and in local communities. Flyers should include a recent photo, physical description, last known location, date last seen, and contact information for law enforcement or tip lines.

AWARENESS WEBSITES A dedicated website can serve as a central hub for case information, media coverage, updates, photographs, timelines, and donation links. Having information in one place makes it easier for supporters, journalists, and investigators to access accurate details.

SOCIAL MEDIA AWARENESS GRAPHICS Consistent graphics can help supporters share information across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and other platforms. Graphics may include missing person alerts, age-progressed images, timeline summaries, and case updates.

MEDIA & PRESSS RESOURCES Families may benefit from having a media page that provides reporters with photographs, case facts, contact information, and approved statements. Organized information can help improve media coverage and reduce misinformation.

TIMELINE DEVELOPMENT Creating a detailed timeline can help organize known events, witness accounts, public sightings, and significant developments. Timelines are often useful for families, advocates, and members of the media.

COMMUNITY AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS Community awareness efforts may include social media campaigns, flyer distribution plans, awareness events, and outreach strategies designed to increase visibility for a case.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES Families may also find assistance through: Local law enforcement agencies State missing persons clearinghouses Victim advocacy organizations Search and rescue groups National missing persons organizations
